HISTORY
The BMW 3.0 CSL , the racing version of which is nicknamed the "Batmobile" due to the numerous aerodynamic appendages added, is an iconic model of the 1970s. Produced between 1972 and 1975, this lightweight version of the E9 coupé was designed for competition. The CSL acronym, which stands for "Lightweight Sports Coupé", refers to its optimized chassis. With aluminum elements to reduce its weight, it weighed almost 200 kg less than the classic version, which improved its performance on both road and track.
Under the hood, the 3.0 CSL houses a 3.0-liter inline-6, which would be increased to 3.2 liters in later versions. Its power and handling quickly made this car a champion of European racing, winning numerous titles in the European Touring Car Championship. Its distinctive design, notably its imposing rear wing, wasn't just for aesthetics: it improved high-speed stability, making the 3.0 CSL as formidable as it was beautiful.
Today, the BMW 3.0 CSL is an automotive legend. Its rarity, sporting heritage, and inimitable look make it one of the most sought-after and admired models in history. Symbolizing an era where performance and innovation went hand in hand, it remains a timeless icon. It will also make history as BMW's first Art Car ( see article ).
